Some songs I like of late

Here are the songs I am soon to no longer like because I will have overplayed them.

Band of Horses Is There a Ghost. In general these guys seem to be a little indie rock, a little alt-country. This one is almost all indie rock. Here the band's Ben Bridwell answers a few questions for Pitchfork. I concur with his assessment that Powderfinger has one of the best opening lines in all of rock. I was also happy to see that his favorite club in which to play is Portland's Crystal.

Okkervil River Our Life is Not a Movie or Maybe. The album got a lot of buzz when it came out, but I just got it. Very nice one.

Metric Love is A Place. These guys are generally more a New Wave rock outfit, but this one is more mellow.

Powderfinger is pretty good, but I think Cortez is better.

My vote for best first line goes to the muttering at the beginning of Clampdown.

My vote for best intro (as opposed to first line) has to go to Gimme Shelter.

Oooo, muttering at the beginning of Clampdown, very nice, very nice.

I think Cortez wins on the warbled chorus "Cortez, cortez.......what a killer!"

Best intro for me is a tough one. We have Bodycount by Bodycount and there is Gangsta Gangsta by NWA. And what about Metallica's One?

And I kinda lied about Metric. My current fave is really Soft Rock Star.

One > For Whom the Bell Tolls?

Most assuredly.

Funeral by Band of Horses is an even better tune, T.
I'm not sure what my favorite opening line is but for some reason this conversation reminds me of my best non-sigur ros concert experience....chanting "DIE...DIE...DIE" with James Hetfield during Creeping Death.

Ah, best interactivity perhaps? I had that experience too (with you?) at RFK. Really quite something.

i also experienced a plate of fries with extra ketchup splat on my back

Ah yes, the largest food fight in all of history. Curse you Axl Rose and your lateness.

Speaking of interactivity, didn't Kirk Hammett once give you props for your Misfits shirt during the Norfolk Scope show?

Neill said...

YES! another great moment. Danzig gave me props for my Alcoholica shirt too. like a Metallica-Danzig tit for tat.

And don't forget the time Chris Cornell kicked you in the head mid-stage dive. And who was the on the double bill? Danzig.

I feel remiss is not promoting Gwar's Sexecutioner for excellent beginning.

Sexcuse me! That Soundgarden show is still among the loudest I've ever experienced....Mogwai was probably the loudest of all tho.
