I just might burst out crying

So there aren't that many good covers and there are plenty of indifferent covers. There are sadly a few EVIL covers, which destroy the song upon which they are based. I submit DJ Sammy's Boys of Summer as an example. The insipid dance background which submerges the hooks and rhythm of the original classic. Even more strange, it is a women singing and the lyrics are tweaked so that it is from the women's perspective, but the song title is still "Boys of Summer." So what did her man realize he is gay and now he is hooking up with dudes? Wierd

I just listened to the original. It so blows the doors off that crap. Leaving aside the little kid playing drums, its a good video too, esp the glance behind during the "can't look back lyric."

Didn't the Ataris do the Boys of Summer? Or some band like them.

Twas the Ataris, and the only item of note in that is the "updating" of the deadhead sticker ref with a "black flag sticker" ref.

I used to think the Ataris version was a bit annoying but it is light years better than this one.

I think Madonna's American Pie cover qualifies as evil. I also hate Limp Bizkit's Behind Blue Eyes, Marilyn Manson's Sweet Dreams and 311's Love Song. Some would include Mr. Tambourine Man and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by William Shatner. I read somewhere that Duran Duran did a horrific cover of Public Enemy(9-1-1 is a Joke).

Hmmm I always put the Love Song in the indifferent category, but then again I am indifferent towards the Cure, despite having Staring at the Sea and playing it incessantly freshman year. I expect this was a common occurence.

Concur on the others, particularly the Madonna one
