Steve sent along the best tumblr I have seen in awhile. It relates to the New York Review of Books Classics line. I don't want to spoil the title, so just click through. I am sure you will agree. These books are so lovely and so great, I would love to have a row of them on my bookshelf.
Last year there was a spate of literal versions of videos. As you probably recall, the singing is dubbed over with a description of what is actually happening. The greatest was Total Eclipse of the Heart, but I just came across a version of Journey's Separate Ways. It isn't as consistently funny as the Bonnie Tyler one, but it has some excellent moments. Separate Ways is one of the worst videos ever, so they have a lot to work with.
Over at Mother Jones, Kevin Drum calls for people to read more nonfiction books or risk being uninformed. Its a good piece.

I just snorted tea out my nose watching that Total Eclipse video at work.
Loved the Separate Ways remake...but what's really sad is then I had to go watch the real one. I'm not ashamed to say it: Journey (and Steve Perry) forevah!

I have no stand on the replacing Steve Perry controversy, because I don't know what it is! (Going off to look it up next...damnit, this Journey thing has been a real time sink today.)
I just will always love Journey because I will always remember sneaking into my brother's room to play "Separate Ways" and "Don't Stop Believin" on his really nice stereo. All my siblings are nearly a decade older than me, so I have way more knowledge of Journey, Styx, Olivia Newton John, John Denver, and Air Supply than someone my age should.
I think all of Journey's band members were pretty talented, but I must say I think that Perry's unique voice is what made them stand out.
It's actually a cool story. The only people who don't like it are Steve Perry die hards.
Some time ago Perry began to lose his voice. Around the same time this guy from the Philippines named Arnel Pineda started showing up on youtube. His ability to sing Journey songs was amazing. So the band hired him as the new singer.
