(via bookslut) I generally discount author blurbs for books, especially in comparison to those of professsional reviews. Here you can see an eggregious example of the untrustworthiness of blurbs.
Well if you write enough reviews on Amazon, like the impossibly prolific Harriet Klausner, you may well get asked to blurb.
I'm not sure if it is a pay deal. It may be that authors, as part of their book contract, are on the hook for a given number of blurbs per year. And they would have to be bombastic too.
